Roma – Lazio
There’s a little doubt that the game between Roma and Lazio is one of the biggest derbies in Italian football. This is the football battle for Rome and on Sunday these two huge rivals will meet once again at the Stadio Olimpico in the capital.
Once again this was a much better season for Roma. Luciano Spalletti’s team is 2nd in the league standings, being beaten in terms of performance just by the champion Juventus. The most important thing is that Roma are very close to a direct qualification for the Champions League. This could be done if they manage to keep the 2nd place until the end of the season. They currently have a 4 point advantage in front of Napoli, so they are in a good position to do it.
Lazio on the other hand are currently 4th in the league standings. They do not have a realistic chance to finish in the Top 3 and reach the Champions League, but they are very close to securing a place in the Europa League.
Lazio will try to avenge the loss they suffered in December. This was the first time when the two Rome teams met for the season and Roma managed to win with 2-0. Now Simone Inzaghi and his boys will try their best to avenge the defeat and bring joy to their supporters.
Roma’s manager Luciano Spalletti won’t be able to rely on the injured Alessandro Florenzi, while Daniele De Rossi, Leandro Paredes, Emmanuele Spinozzi and the legendary Francesco Totti are all doubtful for the game.
Lazio will have to deal with the absence of the suspended Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, while Federico Marchetti, Alessandro Murgia and Stefan Radu are still doubtful for the derby because of injuries.
We’re expecting another great day for football in the Italian capital. Can Roma and Lazio offer us a thrilling spectacle at the Olimpico? We shall wait and see!
