Rayo Vallecano – Barcelona

Rayo Vallecano hosts Barcelona in a match from the 11th round of the Spanish La Liga. These are our thoughts about this game on Saturday evening.

Rayo Vallecano are in the relegation zone of the Spanish league, being 19th with just 6 points won so far. The team’s record shows 1 win, 3 draws and 6 defeats since the beginning of the campaign. In their last five games Rayo are without a win – two draws and three losses.

Michel’s team suffered a loss in its previous fixture as well. Rayo visited Girona in Catalonia, but suffered a 1-2 defeat. Portu scored a brace for the home team, while Alejandro Galvez’ goal for Rayo was not enough for at least a point in this match.

Barcelona are leading the La Liga standings with 21 points won – one more than the 2nd Deportivo Alaves. So far Barca have a record of 6 wins, 3 draws and just 1 loss.

Barca had a tough run in La Liga filled with negative results, but in the last two rounds the Catalans won against Sevilla and Real Madrid, scoring 9 goals in these two games. It seems that Ernesto Valverde’s team is starting to respond to its poor form, bouncing back with positive results.

Rayo Vallecano can’t use the injured Tito and Gorka Elustondo, while Alvaro Medran is doubtful for the game because of an achiles injury.

Barcelona are happy because Lionel Mess is once again training with the squad. The Argentine genius injured his hand against Sevilla and missed El Classico, but Messi is once again training with the team. Thomas Vermaelen remains injured for Barca, while Samuel Umtiti is also training with the squad.

Barcelona are a solid favourite against Rayo Vallecano, even away from home. The champions are winning again and we expect this run to continue against Rayo as well.
