Manchester City – Brighton


The champion Manchester City hosts Brighton & Hove Albion in a game from the 7th round of the English Premier League. Let’s take a look at this game at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester.

With the exception of the 1-1 draw against the newcomer Wolverhampton Wanderers, Man City started the season in a flawless way. Right now Pep Guardiola’s team is 2nd in the Premier League standings with 13 points, being on 2 points behind the current leader Liverpool. City have a record of 5 wins and 1 draw. They are the team with the most scored goals since the start of the season – 19.

After the draw against Wolves, City won three times in a row, beating Newcastle, Fulham and Cardiff City. Guardiola’s boys were exceptionally effective in Cardiff, beating the newcomers with 5-0. Riyad Mahrez scored a brace for the Cityzens, while Sergio Aguero, Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan also scored for the win.

Despite of Liverpool leading the standings, many pundits believe that Man City are the number one favourites for the title. We shall wait and see if it’s so. There’s much, much time until the end of the season.

Brighton & Hove are currently 13th in the Premier League standings with 5 points won so far. They have a record of 1 win, 2 draws and 3 losses since the start of the season. In the second round Brighton achieved a surprising win against Manchester United, but since then they are unable to win, losing twice.

In the last round Brighton suffered a 1-2 home loss against Tottenham. Antony Knockaert scored Brighton’s only goal in the game, but in the last few seconds of it.
