Mainz 05 – RB Leipzig
After both teams made draws in their return games after the COVID-19 quarantine, Mainz 05 and RB Leipzig face each other at the Opel Arena in Mainz on Sunday. That’s a game from the 27th round of the Bundesliga. Let’s preview it in the next few paragraphs.
RB Leipzig made their third consecutive draw last week when the Red Bulls hosted Freiburg, but the game ended 1-1. Despite of missing the opportunity to win, Julian Nagelsmann’s team kept its place in the Top 4. RB Leipzig are now 4th with 51 points, but their advantage over the 5th Bayer Leverkusen is just one point.
Here’s a curious fact: RB Leipzig remain the team with the fewest amount of losses in the Bundesliga so far. The Champions League 1/4-finalists have lost just three times since the beginning of the campaign.
Julian Nagelsmann’s team remains one of the strongest in the league, despite of recording three consecutive games without a win. Against Mainz 05 the Red Bulls will be without the services of Hartmann, Forsberg and Ampadu, who are injured.
Mainz 05 made their third draw for the season last week when they faced Koln. Achim Beierlorzer’s team was two goals behind against the Billy Goats, but they secured the point with goals from Taiwo Awoniyi and Pierre Kunde Malong. Ridle Baku and Jeremiah St. Juste provided the assist.
Mainz remain close to the relegation zone, currently being 15th in the league with 27 points. There’s no doubt that they need to raise their game in order to be more calm about their future in the league. But against RB Leipzig it’s always difficult.
