Mainz 05 – Borussia Dortmund
Mainz 05 are giving their best to keep themselves out of the relegation zone. Right now they are 13th in the standings with 15 points. In the last three rounds they managed to secure two wins, which seriously helped them to get away from the danger zone.
In the previous round Mainz suffered a defeat, though. Achim Beierlorzer’s team visited Augsburg, but got beaten with 1-2. Levin Oztunali opened the score for the visitors, but Augsburg turned the game around and managed to win.
The manager Beierlorzer has some problems with injured players before the next game. Ji Dong-Won, Danny Latza, Stefan Bell and Jean Mateta are all missing the next game. Aaron Seydel is also recovering right now.
Borussia Dortmund are approaching this game in the best possible mood. During the week Die Borussen successfully qualified for the 1/8-finals of the Champions League. They won at home against Slavia Praha, while Barcelona made them a favour and beat Inter Milan in Italy. Lucien Favre’s boys had reason to celebrate, but now they must to the job on Saturday.
In the Bundesliga Borussia Dortmund are third in the standings with 26 points, being four points behind the second RB Leipzig and five points behind the leader Borussia M’gladbach.
In the previous round of the league Die Borussen enjoyed their 7th win for the season. Favre’s boys hosted Fortuna Dusseldorf at the Signal Iduna Park and achieved a dominating 5-0 win. Marco Reus and Jadon Sancho scored braces, while Thorgan Hazard added one more for the hosts.
Against Mainz 05 Borussia Dortmund can’t use the injured Axel Witsel, Marcel Schmelzer and Thomas Delaney, who are recovering.
That’s what we had to say about this Bundesliga match between Mainz 05 and Borussia Dortmund. For the visitors this is a great chance to eventually get closer to top, but Mainz won’t give them the win without a fight.
