Lithuania – England

Lithuania hosts England in a match from Group F of the World Cup qualifiers in Europe.

England already qualified for the World Cup in Russia next summer. They have won this group with 23 points, having six points advangate in front of Scotland. They have a record of 7 wins and 2 draws, being unbeaten in the group so far. In their last game the Three Lions won against Slovenia at home and celebrated getting visas for the World Cup.

England have been arguably the best team in this group. Gareth Southgate’s team is most probably going to finish the campaign unbeaten. They have lost points only twice – during the draws against Scotland and Slovenia. Now everyone expects to see the Brits finish their campaign on a high note – with a win.

As for Lithuania, they are only above the total outsider Malta in this group. Lithuania have won 6 points in the group so far, having a record of one win, three draws and five losses. In their last five games they have lost four times and won a point just once – during the draw with Malta. They are not a team which usually fights for something, but playing only for their honour.

The question is – can England do something at the World Cup? The manager Gareth Southgate can already concentrate on the big event in Russia and start doing some experiments with his squad. He has to start thinking about the team he’s going to bring in Russia and these games are a good opportunity for him to make his calculations.

In this campaign England showed good football and proved that they are a capable team. They had a dissapointing time during the Euro 2016, but now they are really fired up to redeem themselves during the World Cup.
