Frosinone – Cittadella

Frosinone hosts Cittadella in a second leg from the 1/2-finals of the promotion playoffs in the Italian Serie B. This is going to be an interesting clash, so let’s have a look.

Frosinone have a slight advantage here, because of the 1-1 draw between these two teams in the first leg. Luca Paganini gave Frosinone a lead in the first leg, but Lucas Chiaretti kept Cittadella’s chances alive with an equalizer just two minutes before the halftime break.

Now Frosinone have an advantage in the result, scoring a vital away goal in the first leg. Of course, this remains a very close fight, because even one goal could give Cittadella the win here, despite of the bad result in the first match.

But one shall not think that Frosinone will just mess around and wait for the away team to score. They have the advantage and they know it. Expect to see them very confident in the second leg.

Cittadella reached the 1/2-finals of the playoffs after eliminating Bari. The match at the Stadio Pier Cesare Tombolato finished with a 2-2 draw, but the home team did better in the penalties. Paolo Bartolomei was the hero for Cittadella, scoring both goals for the win.

During the regular season Frosinone finished 3rd in the league, being on par with the 2nd Parma. But they remained third, because Parma had better stats. Still, it was very dissapoiting for Frosinone to be so close to direct promotion and to miss their chance.

Meanwhile Cittadella finished 6th in the Serie B with 66 points and a record of 18 wins, 12 draws and 12 losses. They finished the regular season on a high note, being unbeaten in their last five games.

This is our take on the promotion playoff 1/2-final between Frosinone and Cittadella.
