Rennes – PSG
Rennes had the bad luck to draw PSG in such an early phase of the tournament. PSG are the current holders of the trophy and they are the big favourite to win it once again. Rennes will have the advantage to play at home, but it’s going to be really difficult for them to deal with a team with such a force like PSG.
After losing the Ligue 1 title to Monaco last season, PSG are looking better than ever. Especially after bringing players like Neymar, Dani Alves and Kylian Mbappe in the summer. Right now they are dominating in the Ligue 1 and there are expectations that they are going to dominate the Coupe de France as well.
It’s enough to look at the Ligue 1 standings to see how strong PSG are. They have won 16 of their 19 matches so far, scoring 58 goals and conceding just 15. And their domination is not just in France. They are looking very strong in Europe as well, winning their group and qualifying without a problem for the 1/8-finals.
Meanwhile Rennes are moving in the middle of the Ligue 1 table. They are currently 9th with 25 points won. Their record in the league so far is 7 wins, 4 draws and 8 defeats. They are in a negative run of three consecutive games without a win, losing two of them.
Speaking of current form, PSG are in a run of three consecutive wins in the league. This is their way to respond to the surpising loss against Strasbourg a few weeks ago. Will Unai Emery’s team continue to impress against Rennes as well?
